Activated Plug Ins

I went through and activated a couple of plug ins on the site blogs. These are some basic anti-spam and security things that should not change the use of your site.

Upgrade Complete

The upgrade has now been completed. You should be seeing the changes when you log in.

Please let me know if you encounter any wonkiness with the new site, or with any of the themes we’ve currently got avaliable.

Planned Upgrade

Sometime this week, hopefully tomorrow, I’ll be running an upgrade on the site’s blogging platform.

After the upgrade is finished, you should notice a change in the look of your dashboard. The most significant will be the change from tabs at the top of the page, to a left-hand side bar, and a bit of reorganization and renaming.

For example, instead of going to the Write tab to start a post, you’ll look for the Add New link under Posts in the sidebar.

Things shouldn’t change too much, though

Edit: This upgrade shouldn’t require much/any downtime. If it does, I’ll post a notice on the Wilson Karate School page.

Getting Your Blog Started

For those of you who may not have used a WordPress blog before, here are a few things to do to get yourself started:

Choose a theme. We have a few activated for your use.
a. To pick one, click the Design tab (under your blog title on the administration page).
b. Click on the themes to see how they’ll look, and then click Activate in the top right hand corner of the preview to use the theme in your blog.
Create some topic categories.
a. Click on the Manage tab, and then click Categories.
b. Fill out the Add Category form. This will help filter entries in the future.
Create your first first post.
a. Click on the Write tab. This will open the post editor. The Visual editor is a “What You See Is What You Get” editor, but if you have experience with HTML you can use that view. (Some HTML tags may not function well. For example, tables can sometimes be problematic.) The post will appear as you type it in the WSYWIG editor, though the font and font sizes will be determined by the theme you selected.
b. You can Save your work as you go. The entry will not be visible to anyone else until you select Publish.

Links, Link Categories, Pages, and other items can be added in much the same way. Explore the options under the Write and Manage tabs to see what’s available.
